The Cymbidium 'Aussie Midnight' is a hybrid developed in 1991, from a primary cross between the two Cymbidium species Cym. atropurpureum and Cym. canaliculatum. This stunning orchid produces pendulous spikes of dark burgundy (almost black) flowers in summer.
Requires bright light outdoors, sheltered from harsh, midday sun. Use a porous, well-draining potting mix (we recommend a small-medium grade orchid bark), and water thoroughly and frequently in the warmer months, during the active growth period. Cymbidium orchids have sensitive root systems, so avoid repotting more than necessary, and ensure this is only done during the growth period, to avoid shock and rot. Fertilise fortnightly with an orchid specific fertiliser throughout spring and summer.
All pictures are of plants currently for sale or previously sold at The Tropic Gardener. The plant photographed should be used as an indication of size and quality only and may not be the exact plant you receive. Form and colour will vary slightly.
These orchids are currently not in flower, however are at flowering maturity, and with the right care and conditions, may produce flower spikes in the coming season. All photos of flowering orchids are to show the flowering potential - these specimens are not for sale.
