The FDK (Fredclarkeara) After Dark is stunning orchid hybrid created in 2002, from a cross between Mormodia 'Painted Desert' and Catasetum 'Donna Wise'. This deciduous orchid produces absolutely show-stopping, almost black flowers after it sheds its foliage in winter.
CARE:
Requires a brightly lit position, sheltered from direct sun. Use a porous, well-draining potting mix (we recommend a small-medium grade orchid bark), and water frequently during the growth/ flowering season (late spring to summer). Fertilise with an orchid-specific formulation throughout the growth and flowering season only.
Being a deciduous orchid, the FDK will lose its foliage in winter, so be sure to only water sparsely throughout this time and do not fertilise until new growth begins to emerge.
PLEASE NOTE: All pictures are of plants currently for sale or previously sold at The Tropic Gardener. The plant photographed should be used as an indication of size and quality only and may not be the exact plant you receive. Form and colour will vary slightly.
These orchids are currently not in flower, however are at flowering maturity, and with the right care and conditions, may produce flower spikes in the coming season. All photos of flowering orchids are to show the flowering potential - these specimens are not for sale.
DORMANCY DISCLAIMER:
The FDK orchids are currently dormant or beginning to go dormant, meaning that they have minimal to no foliage. This is NORMAL for these deciduous orchids. Please inspect photos carefully and ensure you are happy prior to purchasing.
