This epiphytic Dendrobium species is native to the Himalayas and Northern Asia. Dendrobium thyrsiflorum produces stunning, pinecone-like spikes, densely covered in white flowers, with buttercup-yellow centres. The flowering season for this orchid is from spring to summer, and blooms generally last from 1-2 weeks.
CARE:
Requires bright, filtered light outdoors, sheltered from any direct sun. Being an epiphytic species, Dendrobium can either be mounted on your choice of raft, or potted in a well-draining orchid pot, using small-medium grade orchid bark. If mounted, Dendrobium will require increased humidity and very frequent watering to maintain adequate hydration. Potted Dendrobium require frequent and thorough watering, allowing water to run completely through the pot. Fertilise fortnightly with an orchid specific fertiliser throughout spring and summer.
PLEASE NOTE: All pictures are of plants currently for sale or previously sold at The Tropic Gardener. The plant photographed should be used as an indication of size and quality only and may not be the exact plant you receive. Form and colour will vary slightly.
These orchids are currently not in flower, however are at flowering maturity, and with the right care and conditions, may produce flower spikes in the coming season. All photos of flowering orchids are to show the flowering potential - these specimens are not for sale.
